Edition 2

The Woman at the Helm: President
Vjosa Osmani

The Warrior Bride: Shote Galica (1895-1927)

The Artistic Rebel: Adelina Tërshani

This edition of F’Oda’s Feminist Features is especially poignant as we celebrate Women's History Month in March.

The individuals featured here are not only change-makers, liberators, artists, and advocates but also exemplify the resilience and strength of Albanian women. In Albanian culture, women are often confined to roles defined by patriarchal narratives. Expected to fulfill the duties of a daughter, wife, and mother while safeguarding the sanctity of the home, these traditional gender roles perpetuate the perception of women as meek, subordinate, and dependent. However, the women highlighted in this feature defy these stereotypes, challenging the status quo and carving out their own space in society. Each woman showcased here embodies extraordinary courage. Through their actions, they have paved the way for Albanian women to aspire to the highest office in the state, support one another, and utilize art as a tool for change. Most importantly, they have dismantled the ideologies that limit women from realizing their full potential and pursuing their life's aspirations.

In essence, each woman epitomizes the core principles of the F’Oda Summit: empowering women and girls by dismantling barriers and acknowledging their inherent value in society.
